Pengertian dan Jenis Conjunction

Conjunction adalah kata atau kelompok kata yang digunakan untuk menghubungkan frasa (phrase), klausa (clause), dan kalimat (sentence).

Conjunction merupakan salah satu parts of speech. Conjunction juga disebut connective atau penghubung. Terdapat jenis-jenis conjunction dalam bahasa inggris:

• coordinate conjunction.
• correlative conjunction.
• subordinate conjunction.

Jenis-jenis Conjunction dan Contohnya

 

Coordinate Conjunction

Coordinate Conjunction mengabungkan item yang setara atau sama dalam suatu kalimat.
contoh: and, but, or, yet, nor, so

• I love swimming and cooking
• You have two choice in your life, success or fail 
  
• Dina likes vegetables but he don't like cucumber
• .Joko is paralyzed, yet yesterday I saw him run from a robber
• Doni thought he had a good chance to get the job, for his father was on the company’s board of trustees.
•  Lia is arrogant, so she is hated by her friend

Correlative Conjunction

Beberapa conjunction berpasangan dengan kata lain untuk membentuk apa yang disebut correlative conjunction yang berfungsi untuk menunjukkan hubungan antara dua kata, phrase, atau clause.

contoh:

both . . . and not only . . . but also not . . . but either . . . or

• Both Rosy and Ana, are cute little girl. 
• He is an incredible man, he is not only rich but also handsome
• Whether you apologize or kiss my oot, you have embrass your parents  
  
• She is as beautiful as her mother.

Subordinate Conjunction

Subordinate Conjunction digunakan untuk menghubungkan dependent clause dengan main clause pada suatu kalimat.Artinya jika kita tidak menggunakan kata sambung, maka salah satu kalimat sulit untuk bisa dimengerti maksudnya apabila ia berdiri sendiri. Yang termasuk Subordinating Conjunction adalah: While, Whether, Where, Before, After, Then, As, Since, Because, Although/ though/even though, How, Until.

 Contoh:

• I have started gaining weight because I haven’t exercised lately.
• She always smile though she’s in deep blue.
• The proposal will never be approved until the requirements filled.
• My friend always asked me whether I and Thidarat are lovers or not.
• I will pick you up at 9 o’clock after I finish my job.
